Cinematique・Passion to Hold "Macao International Children Film Festival" Exploring Children's Imagination and Creativity
The Cinematique・Passion, under the direction of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will hold the "Macao International Children's Film Festival" from July 6 to August 17, as a follow-up to the Macao International Children's Arts Festival. More than twenty animated and fiction films of various styles will be screened, complemented by engaging workshops, as well as introductory sessions to the films presented. In addition, there will be two free outdoor screenings, completely open to the public.
Dynamic Thematic Sections
In this concept, the film festival will present a rich and varied cinematic experience through four thematic categories, meeting the expectations of both adults and children. The theme " Pop Hits When Parents Were Kids" will take children back to the time of their parents' youth, with a selection of films that will capture any pure and innocent heart, examples such as Babe, the thrilling A.I. - Artificial Intelligence and the fun Shrek, which will endlessly inspire children's imaginations. The "Classics for Every Child" section presents timeless classics from the history of cinema, such as The 400 Blows, directed by François Truffaut, which launched the French New Wave, and even I Not Stupid by Singaporean director Jack Neo, which explores the bittersweet phase of growing up. The "Children’s Film Festival Annual Hand-picked" section brings together outstanding new animations, as well as excellent local short films, which focuses on the relationship between parents and children, as well as local works on various themes such as Children’s Film Festival Annual Hand-picked, Mui and The Lighthouse, thus providing a unique visual event for the general public.
The film festival is organizing two special free outdoor screenings as a grand finale. This will include films such as Chicken for Linda!, which reveals a deep relationship between mother and daughter, as well as a selection of excellent animations from local series such as“Pundusina” Series - Selected Animations, with a vivid and free animation style concept. The event will be held at the Art Plaza of Macao Cultural Centre, allowing the audience to enjoy the summer breeze while exploring the rich, inner world of children through cinematic art.
Diversified Extended Activities
The festival's complementary activities are diverse and exciting, including the participation of renowned Hong Kong film critic Joyce Yang, who will share her unique perspectives on classic films in the "Classics for Every Child" session, thus guiding the audience to explore the profound cultural implications of these works. Consequently, two innovative and interesting workshops are also on offer: the “Ho Sio Chung Doing Gymnastics” - Drawing Workshop, led by instructor Sam Kin Hang, where participants draw Ho Sio Chong's adorable gymnastics poses in the context of creating a personalized gymnastics manual; and the Leisure in the Small Town - Workshop “Pundusina Teaches How to Make Chicken”, which uses stop-motion animation with clay to document the process of making chicken with soy sauce, thus allowing participants to create their own recipe animations.
