CFPP - TALK: THE FABULOUS ONE: MIGUEL GOMES, THE STORYTELLER

In a career spanning two decades and spawning ten feature-length and short films Portuguese cineaste Miguel Gomes has developed a unique way of social-conscious storytelling through a combination of the real, the fantastic, the gritty and the absurd. Blending handsomely mounted black and white films with rugged documentary footage shot on 16mm stock, Gomes’ films offers a rich tapestry of images of and about the then and now of Portugal. Using material drawn from The Arabian Nights and also his other films, the talk will explore how the filmmaker tackles a past that’s not even past.
