Andrea, a policewoman planning to move on from her unhappy marriage with a transfer to St. Pölten, accidentally hit her drunk, estranged husband with her car while driving home. Shocked, she flees the scene, only to find the next day that Franz, a local religion teacher and recovering alcoholic, has taken the blame for the incident. Believing he is responsible, and with the village convinced of his guilt, Franz falls back into alcoholism. Meanwhile, Andrea is consumed with covering up her own involvement, as she tries to eliminate any traces of her guilt.
