Which is your rom-com classic? The 25th anniversary director's cut verion of the film In the Mood for Love became the only rom-com released on Valentine's Day this year, stirring up controversy over revisiting the classics. What is the contemporary relationship that exists between love and morality, the body, and stardom? Is there such a thing as the purity of love these days, or is the emotional valence of either justice or pleasure the object of the quest? Is what we think of as a classic, like Ang Lee's Lust, Caution, a paradigm-defying, out-of-the-ordinary love?
In this edition of Film Club, Roman, a Foshan-based film culturalist, and film Joyce Yang will talk about the romance and regrets of the times, from Romance on Lushan Mountain, An Autumn's Tale, Farewell My Concubine, The Pig, The Snake and The Pigeon, to And Then, The Piano Lesson, Love Letter, and Anora, to name just a few. We look forward to seeing you at the theater for a relaxing chat about films.
