Behind the Scenes, Beyond the Frame: Exhibition of Production Design on Macao Film
"Behind the Scene, Beyond the Frame: Exhibition of Production Design on Macao Film" invites you behind the scenes of filmmaking. From the perspectives of production designers—including art directors, set designers, and costume designers—you will revisit three acclaimed Macao films: Our Seventeen, Kissing the Ground You Walked On, and I Want to Be a Plastic Chair. This exhibition reveals the creative artistry and meticulous work behind the screen.
These young Macao production designers, with diverse backgrounds, have brought a distinctive artistic style and vibrancy to Macao's emerging film industry through their flexible and unconventional creative methods.
Through exclusive and newly recorded in-depth interviews, precious design sketches and notes, actual props and costumes, you will “get in” to witness the secrets of Macao's visual storytelling from the five featured production designers: Chantelle CHEANG, Paula LO Pou I, Celeste CHAU DA LUZ, Monyca WONG and Nancy IO. The exhibition will show you how local production designers transform from a mere concept into a tangible reality, injecting Macao's unique life and texture into characters, narratives, and the overall cinematic atmosphere.
We hope that after you "step out" of the Cinematheque・Passion, you'll be inspired by the unique aesthetic of Macao’s production designers. With this new perspective, you can rediscover your familiar city and find new ways to see and capture Macao.
