Man on the Brink
1982 Golden Horse Awards – Best Director, Best Leading Actor, and Best Original Screenplay
Alex Cheung's second film and one of the best of the Hong Kong New Wave, successfully turns the story of an undercover cop into a new film genre. The main character's internal conflicts, fear of being exposed, and intricate relationship with his superiors went on to become the blueprints for many undercover cop films. Shot on location in Kowloon Walled City, Yau Ma Tei Fruit Market and Government housing estates, Man on the Brink is a gritty, violent and ultimately heartbreaking cop story. Painting a vivid picture of a person forced to straddle the line between good and evil.
