A small holiday house by the Baltic Sea. The days are hot and it hasn’t rained in weeks. Four young people come together, friends old and new. As the parched forests around them begin to ignite, so do their emotions. Happiness, lust and love; but also jealousies, resentments and tensions. Meanwhile the forests burn. And before long, the flames are there.
As the second instalment of Christian Petzold’s “Elemental Trilogy” begun with Undine, Afire is the Winner of the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize at the 2023 Berlin International Film Festival.

 | About the Director Christian Petzold is a German director and screenwriter, born in Hilden, who won the Silver Bear for Best Director in the competition at the 62nd Berlinale in 2012 for Barbara, which was selected as the German entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 85th Oscars. The film was selected as the German entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 85th Academy Awards, and in 2023 Roter Himmel won the Silver Bear at the 73rd Berlinale Jury Prize. | |
