Jenny, a young college student who moves to New York City to reunite with her boyfriend Vincent, only to find out that he has a new woman and has decided to move to Boston. Heartbroken and lonely, she is taken care of by her distant cousin Figurehead. Regardless of their vastly different personalities, Figurehead soon finds himself falling for Jenny, despite being self-conscious about his humble upbringing, compulsive gambling, and coarse ways. They soon realise they have to face the question of whether two incredibly mismatched people can really be together.

An Autumn’s Tale is my all-time favourite Hong Kong romance film. A quintessential commercial classic of the 80s, its story is simple and pure, yet it perfectly encapsulates the genuine emotions of an era. The characters, "Figgy" (Chow Yun-fat) and "Jennifer" (Cherie Chung), from that era were so vividly drawn and remained etched in our collective memory. I can never forget the poignant exchange when Danny Chan’s character tries to win Jennifer back, saying, "I stayed up all night thinking about you." She simply replies, "Three people didn't sleep last night..."
