Jong-du, who has three previous convictions, pays a visit to the family of the victim in the hit-and-run accident and meets Gong-ju, the daughter, who has cerebral palsy. Jong-du is fascinated by her at first sight. Over a series of clandestine meetings, the handicapped young woman and the feckless young man come to fall in love with each other. However, their love is not understood by anyone else.

Oasis is the most moving yet brutal love story I have ever seen. It portrays two souls discarded by the world, but they understand the essence of love better than anyone. The cruellest truth is that we are moved by their story precisely because of our own inability to love so unconditionally. Yet, there is comfort in knowing that because of this film, we now know there are invisible butterflies in the air.
