Theme: AI and Cinema: How Will the Narrative of “Humanity” Be Reshuffled?

AI has arrived, but where does cinema go from here? 2026 is destined to be the inaugural year of AI's comprehensive penetration into film production. At the start of the year, Asia's first AI filmmaking course officially commenced; Subsequently, Seedance 2.0 was unveiled, its shot composition capabilities and visual logic rivalling Sora, signalling that AI visual iteration has entered an era of accelerated evolution. Director Jia Zhangke, ever attuned to media transformation, released a short film in mid-February entirely generated by AI. His likeness, voice, and cinematic universe all became raw material for AI creation.

AI and cinema are not merely a contest of industrial technology; they fundamentally challenge our position as “visual consumers”. Can AI conceive stories about “humanity”? Is it still necessary to distinguish whether the soul behind the screen is carbon-based or silicon-based? “Film Chat Club 2.0” Series Part Three: If you can't avoid it, embrace it head-on. We welcome film and technology scholar Chien-Yi Tsai to engage in dialogue with Yee-Sze Chiu. Starting from the latest AI-generated films and cultural phenomena, they will explore the creative reshuffle and cultural anxieties brought about by technological revolution. We look forward to seeing you at the cinema!
