“BESTIAIRE is a documentary that quietly taught me an important lesson throughout my journey of studying and reflecting on documentary filmmaking. While watching it, I found myself repeatedly contemplating the relationship between the image and the viewer. The film’s long takes are, more precisely, a gaze upon animals in captivity. What continually provokes my reflection comes not from dialogue or interviews, but from the way the space and temporality of the images connect with the viewer’s thoughts, opening up new ways for me to think about documentary cinema.”

Along the rhythm of the changing seasons, they watch one another. BESTIAIRE unfolds like a filmic picture book about mutual observation, about peculiar perception. A poetic contemplation of a stable imbalance, and of lose, quiet and indefinable elements.
