Silent Trilogy

Silent Trilogy consists of three short films written and directed by Juho Kuosmanen: Romu-Mattila and a Beautiful Woman (2012), The Moonshiners (2017) and A Planet Far Away (2023). Portraying various characters, from doomed outcasts to moonshiners and a pig, the film is a tribute to silent cinema, its playfulness and vivid experience. Silent Trilogy is about the end of everything and the extraordinary attempts to survive it.

The Masked Monster

A starving peasant girl trades her younger brother for a sack of rice. When her hunger is satisfied, a strong feeling of guilt takes hold of her, and she travels back to the house where she had abandoned him. But it is too late, her brother has disappeared and strange footsteps lead her into the forest. Mixing Korean legends with horror fiction, The Masked Monster is a journey through Korea’s poverty-stricken past, led by an unexpected character: a crow.
