Light in Films
There is light, there are shadows, and thus there are images, there is a world that is presented. We may have grown accustomed to the idea that ‘film is the art of moving light and shadow,’ but the light on the screen still holds many angles worth exploring. What are some unforgettable lights in films? Candlelight, neon, sunlight, or perhaps divine light, spiritual light? Light can be a point of view, transcending everyday experience, or it may be a choice, approaching truth or perhaps a lie.
Film Club welcomes Macao director and cinematographer Mike Ao Ieong. We hope that through his eyes, we can refresh our understanding of ‘light’ in movies.
