LIFE, ANIMATED is an inspirational story about Owen Suskind, a young man who was unable to speak from ages 3 to 12, until he and his family discovered a unique way to communicate by immersing themselves in the world of classic Disney animations. Through repeated viewings of Disney classics, Owen found a way to understand the complex social cues and to re-connect with the world around him. Characters like Simba, Jafar, and Ariel gave him a means to understand his feelings and enable him to interpret reality. Has animation provided him with enough vital life skills to conquer the real world?

Post-screening Talk – “Finding the Key That Connects Them to the World”
Through the coming-of-age story of a child with autism, Life, Animated offers audiences a deeper understanding of the characteristics and needs of children on the autism spectrum, while encouraging reflection on how inclusion, support, and understanding can help them connect with the world and develop their strengths. Following the screening, the sharing session will explore sensory experiences, the cultivation of interests and talents, and multidisciplinary support services, while discussing how society can become a stronger source of support for both children and their caregivers.
