𝗟𝗮𝗼 𝗞𝗲𝗻𝗴 𝗨 is a filmmaker and artist. He graduated from Arts University Bournemouth with a BA degree in Film Directing. Through different materialities of the moving image, Lao explores the performativity of theatrical magic as an expanded metaphor for how perceptions and imaginary of reality are manipulated and generated. Lao’s works reflect and refract conceptions of identity, memory, and futurity in contemporary Macao. His films have been shown in festivals across the Chinese territories and internationally, including at Kurzfilm Festival Hamburg, Sao Paulo International Short Film Festival, Guang Zhou Documentary Film Festival, Aesthetica Short Film Festival, Bogota Experimental Film Festival and Macao Films and Videos Panorama.

A Void Without A Face (Macao, 2021)
A girl born with a birthmark struggles to get along with her estranged mother at home. As stains around the house are being cleaned, the two women are taken back to where it all began, trying to erase any traces of resentment.

Fallen Memories (Singapore/Indonesia/Macao, 2020)
Waking up to an alternate reality, a man encounters an aged sewing machine and a batik left on the pedestal that arouses his desires. As he interacts with the batik, he struggles to break free from an invisible restraint and soon merges with its structure with graceful fluidity, finally free.

Holy Eyes (Macao, 2021)
In a mysterious clinic, a young man is prescribed an eye treatment after failing a sight test. As he begins to question the whole situation, the protagonist is forced to undergo a sequence of unimaginable therapeutic procedures.

Remote (Macao, 2023)
The endless carousel, Portuguese-style architecture, clown performances, the cheerful sound of the city, the opinions of citizens on the radio and the stunning views of the Venetian Hotel. A mysterious middle-aged man who seems to be enjoying life in Macau fails to adapt to the city’s development. He discovers the secret of his own body and the key to utopia.
Whisper In The Breeze (UK, 2018)
A fantasy-drama follows a spirit’s journey to the next life. Matthew, a young man wakes up in a coffin at his funeral and learns that he is in fact, dead. With the help of a spiritual guide, he ventures to visit his home. Despite his non-existence he attempts to live – finding closure in the grief and nostalgia his loved ones have experienced with his passing.
