I shoot, therefore I am!?…
The relationship between cinema and reality is profoundly mysterious, yet it remains one of the fundamental questions directors must grapple with during creation. What kind of story, told in what form, can approach what kind of “truth”? For Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami, film itself is life. His work has inspired countless filmmakers to blur the boundaries between life and cinematic creation. Especially in today's world where anyone can pick up a phone to film, “I shoot, therefore I am”—to exist is to be captured—has undeniably become our daily reality.
For this edition of the Film Club, director Ka Sing Fung (Lost Love) will join us at the cinema to explore the boundaries between reality and fiction. We'll discuss the master filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami and delve into the creative process behind both short and feature-length films, sharing Jia's insights and experiences as both a director and a juror. We look forward to seeing you at the theater!
