For over 30 years, Fred Rogers, an unassuming minister, puppeteer, writer and producer, was beamed daily into homes across America. In his beloved television program, Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, Fred and his cast of puppets and friends spoke directly to young children about some of life's weightiest issues, in a simple, direct fashion. There hadn't been anything like Mr. Rogers on television before and there hasn't been since.

Post-Screening Talk – “A Poem for Caregivers”

The documentary Won’t You Be My Neighbor? offers a sensitive portrayal of how Fred Rogers accompanied children through their growth with patient listening and sincere responses, helping them gradually learn to express themselves and understand who they are within relationships built on respect and trust. Following the screening, the sharing session will explore children’s emotional expression, self-identity, and the everyday experiences of caring for and supporting children. Drawing on the film’s message, “To be yourself,” participants will reflect on how empathy and love can help build a shared language of communication between adults and children throughout the journey of growing up. The session will also invite participants to share their insights and experiences in caring for children, and to discover the unique “mottos” and mutual understanding that connect them.
